Remko Siemerink
Bio [2009]
Remko Siemerink was born in the Netherlands in 1981. He is interested in the new
possibilities and innovation where existing disciplines meet:
architecture, (industrial) design, (new) media, information technology,
electronics, etc. He received his master's degree in architectural
engineering from Delft University of
Technology in 2008 while doing research within the group called Hyperbody, where
techniques and methods for designing and building of nonstandard, virtual,
and interactive architectures are explored. Simple rules causing
complexity have been an inspiration in several architectural projects
during his studies. Currently he works as a researcher in the Hyperbody group.
Project Title
Exploring Age-Dependent Rules in Cellular Automata
Project
Visual examples exist of cellular automata showing the age of their cells in
shades of color, but this obviously does not change the rules. The age of
a cell might matter in models of phenomena in, for example, biology (where
old cells die), social networks (where certain bonds get weaker over time),
urban planning, etc.
As a first experiment, patterns are explored that may occur when a cell
"dies" after it has been alive for a certain period.
