Aurora Bristor

Aurora Bristor is an economic analyst with CoreLogic and a master's student in applied mathematics at the University of Maryland, College Park. She graduated from St. John's College, Annapolis, in 2004. Since discovering the breadth of possibilities for agent-based modeling, she has been pursuing ways to further her involvement in this field.

Strategic Default

As the economy remains weak and attitudes towards home ownership change, strategic default has taken on a larger presence in the national economic consciousness than its actual prevalance would suggest. Intentionally defaulting on a home loan for financial benefit to the detriment of neighbors brings into direct conflict the American ideals of capitalism and community. My project for the next two weeks will be to look for a very basic model to watch the development and spread of strategic default as a function of homeowners' local economic and social circumstances.
