Crinkling

A question somewhat related to fracture concerns the generation of definite creases in crumpled or wrinkled objects such as pieces of paper or fabric. It is not too difficult to make various statements about details of the particular arrangements of creases that can occur, but nothing seems to be known about the origin of the overall randomness that is almost universally seen.
